मेरे दरवाज़े में
दस्तक देकर
थके हारे सोते मुझे
क्यूँ जगाते हो  तुम ?

वे सर हिलाती
मस्कुराती
अपने लाडले को सराहती
सुनती अपने औलाद की  दास्ताँ
सात समुन्दर पार
सुनहरे परदेस से
खिलौनों की ढेर समेत
आते उसके  विलायती वालिद के किस्से
मामता में गीली  रोटी  चबाती
उनकी गोद में  सोती

अपने अब्बे के ख़यालों में
उनकी  जिगर की टुकड़ा 

अरे! मुझे क्या इल्म ?
जैसे
उस माँ की ममता की हलावात में
मिटती हैं  उनकी बेवगी की तल्खियाँ
वैसे
मुस्तक़बिल की हर दस्तक में
धुंधलते  मासी के लम्बे फासले
न एहसास  हाल की मसाइल
जागता हर दिन नहायत खुश हाल
सिर्फ  दिखते सुबह के  सितारे
तेरे मुहब्बत के इशारे

तो
उम्मीद भरी लोरियाँ सुनाते
सुलाये  मुझे,
सूरज की पहली किरणों से
जगाये मुझे
फज्र के  ठंडे आब-ए- रवान में
नहलाये मुझे
ऊद और इतर की मश्क से
मेहकाये मुझे
आखिर कहाँ  दुनिया की तमाम मामता ?
तेरी रहमत  के मुकाबले

आखिर, खुदाया  !
तेरे अताओं में
तो क़ाबिल-ए-क़दर
यह  नूर-ए-उम्मीद  ही

जितनी  आपके दिल में

आज़माओ!
मेरे मुहब्बत-ए - हिन्द को
परखो!
मेरे वफ़ा-ए- हिन्द को
ज़ीना फाड़कर  देखो
कैसा  धड़कता  यह दिल
हमारा  हिन्दोस्तां
हमारा  गुलिस्तां
जिसमे फले फूले हम
हमारी सरज़मीन

फिर कब आ गए, भाई
ये  'तुम' और 'हम'
फिर भी क्यों ,  भाई
शक़ मुझपे
फिर भी क्यों ,  भाई
 नफ्रत मुझसे
फिर भी क्यों ,  भाई
थूकते हैं मुझपे
फिर भी क्यों ,  भाई
नहीं  देते, इज़्ज़त मुझे

नमाज़ी हूँ रोज़ा-पाबंद हूँ
तहज्जुद  गुज़ार हूँ
तो क्या, मेरे हुब - ए - वतन मेरा ईमान   नहीं ?
तो  क्या, मेरा  फ़र्ज़ - ए - मुल्क  मेरी इबादत  नहीं ?

मत फैलाओ बैर
मत सोचो ,मैं  गैर

सरफ़रोशी की तमन्ना अब (भी) हमारे दिल में हैं *
मर मिटेंगे मुल्क पे क़ुर्बान *
वक़्त आने पर बता देंगे तुझे, ए आसमान,*
हम अभी से क्या बताएँ क्या हमारे दिल में है*

The desire for revolution is (still) in our hearts

To sacrifice for my nation

How much in  heart of you all

That much in my heart

My nation

My country

My people

My land

Put to test my love for my Hind

Put to test my loyalty for my Hind

Break my chest and see

How my heart beats

For our Hindustan

For our garden

In which you and me

Flowered and ripened

Our land

Then when did this (situation) come

This ‘you’ and ‘me’

Even then why, dear brother

You doubt on me

Even then why, dear brother

You hate me for no reason

Even then why, dear brother

You spit on me

Even then why, dear brother

You do not respect my honour 

I pray  Namaz , I fast

I am pious

But my love for my motherland is (part of) my belief

But my duty to my nation is my prayer

My pride

My glory

Every moment

Every second

Every step

We be together

Do not spread this enmity

Do not think, I am different

The desire for revolution is still in our hearts

To sacrifice for my nation

When the time comes, we shall show thee, O heaven*

For why should we tell thee now, what lurks in our hearts?*
