Yesterday's rain

Yesterday it rained
I opened my umbrella
to hide from the rain
of the trees walking
on the wet tarmac
I saw pools of water
over which sunrays played
I thought I can match them
 with my tears everynight
Then the previous night
 I sat near that window
when my hairlocks  flowed in the monsoon wind
the raindrops sprayed onto you so romantic
drowning my giggles
recalling those moments of ecstasy
my chat-chatter over the new mobile
Then the next morning
I would literally fly through the air from home
like the girl in that TV 'ad'
less for the boredom of academics
more for the meeting in the corridors,
cafeteria or the woods behind the classrooms
 Yesterday when it rained
The sound of the rain could drown my sobs
I took in my cupped hands
 pure pearl-like raindrops
to soothen the red swollen patch on my face
after the slap gifted by the same hands
